On April 26, the Ministry of Science and Technology convened the inaugural meeting of the Research Center for the Development of Next-Generation Artificial Intelligence and a symposium on cutting-edge AI trends. To strengthen the organizational support and research backing for the implementation of the National New-Generation Artificial Intelligence Development Plan, the Ministry of Science and Technology has established the Research Center for New-Generation Artificial Intelligence Development (hereinafter referred to as the “Research Center”). The Research Center is based at the China Science and Technology Information Institute and the China Academy of Science and Technology Development Strategy, and maintains extensive connections with scholars and industry professionals in the field of artificial intelligence, with the aim of providing advisory recommendations on AI development strategies and cutting-edge technological directions. At the symposium, participating experts—including Zhou Zhihua, Chen Yunji, Wang Xiaogang, Zeng Yi, Zhou Bowen, Shi Yaoyun, Zhang Minling, Yin Shouyi, Cha Zhengjun, and Tang Ke—exchanged views on前沿 trends and development directions in AI, such as machine learning, intelligent chips, computer vision, brain-inspired intelligence, and quantum intelligence.
Vice Minister Li Meng stated that the establishment of the research center is a crucial step in advancing China’s artificial intelligence development. He expressed the hope that the center will further strengthen its sense of mission and urgency, enhance long-term, continuous tracking and monitoring, promptly assess major trends, and reinforce its strategic and policy reserves; strive to integrate resources from various think tanks and research institutions to build a widely influential platform for AI research collaboration, thereby pooling efforts to address major AI-related issues in China; and, aligned with strategic objectives and focused on key challenges, conduct sustained research to produce high-quality outcomes, thus making a positive contribution to enabling China to seize the significant opportunities presented by AI development and to drive an overall提升 in national competitiveness.
Relevant officials from the relevant departments and units of the Ministry of Science and Technology, as well as researchers from the Research Center for the Development of Next-Generation Artificial Intelligence, attended the meeting.
